How do you measure wheel bolt patterns?

Measuring bolt patterns could be very easy or very confusing. To measure even number of lugs, it is fairly straightforward. You just need to measure from the center one stud
to the center of another stud all the way across, like from 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock. On the other hand, odd number of lugs like 5 lug bolt pattern can be very tricky. Many people may use the same method that they measure bolt patterns on a 4 lug or 6 lug, which is from center of the first stud to the center of the third studs. This will end up in wrong bolt pattern measurement. In fact, the correct way to measure a 5 lug bolt pattern is to measure from the center of the first stud to the OUTER edge of the third stud. The same concept will apply to measuring bolt patterns on wheel holes.
